Triangulation Peak Hike 22Oct06

Spire Rock and Triangulation Peak are near the northwest corner of
Jefferson Wilderness in the Oregon Cascades. Triangulation Peak is about
2 miles from the trail head. The first mile offers little elevation gain
and scattered openings for views to the north. This is rather classic old
growth forest. The last mile and a half offers a very manageable ascent
via switch backs. The trail is in great shape. The part I did could be done
in tennis shoes very easily.

Looking east about a mile from Spire Rock.
The trail goes right to the base of Spire.

Looking up the south edge of Spire.
The top is not visible from this point in the trail.

Trainagulation Peak to the south.

I found a volcanic scree ledge that had no trees,
hence, this unobstructed view of Mt. Jefferson to the
southeast.

Looking north to Mt. Hood from the same spot.

A view of the top of Spire Rock from the ledge.
